About the ring pendant
A real butterfly wing set behind a clear glass dome in a sterling silver setting.
The wings of the Papilio Lorquinianus Albertisi is slightly iridescent and changes from shades of blue to green, depending on the direction of the light. They get their colour from light refraction caused by tiny scales on the surface of the wing. The iridescent green you see, is in fact an optical illusion!
Where do the butterflies come from?
The butterflies are sourced from an organisation that manages conservation programs all over the world. Agricultural development has caused the natural habitat of a lot of butterfly species to become threatened, and their populations started dwindling. Conservation programs were therefore started to enable farmers from third world countries to keep the rain forests on their land intact, while still providing a livelihood that paid better than monocultural crops.
The breeding program enables thousands of butterflies to be bred sustainably. A small portion of the butterflies are caught and sold, and the money generated from the sales ensures that the tropical forests, which are vital to their survival, are preserved.

The ring has been sealed, but is not 100% waterproof. Care should be taken to avoid contact with moisture, as this will damage the wing. Do not apply moisturiser and perfume close to the wing. When not worn, store in a cool dark dry place to preserve the colour for years to come. Polish with a dry silver polishing cloth.
